Suman Hothi, Lead Clinical Trauma Counsellor

Suman Hothi, is a Registered Clinical Counsellor and holds a Master of Counselling Psychology degree from the Adler School of Professional Psychology. Suman grew up in London, England and moved to Vancouver, B.C, where she completed her undergraduate and graduate studies.  Growing up in London, residing in Vancouver and volunteering with children in Uganda, Africa has provided Suman with immense experience in cultural diversity and invited her to use techniques that are culturally suitable for each individual client. Suman, believes that clients are experts on their own lives and sees her role as a collaborator of solutions for people looking to make changes. Suman approaches her work with clients from a position of empathy as she strives to ensure client safety and trust. Suman practices from an integrated perspective, primarily using a Trauma Informed Approach. This approach consists of; working collectively with clients, their support networks and the community. In addition to this Suman looks at the relationship between symptoms and trauma and builds a bridge using brain-based therapy and practical neuroscience. Suman provides resources and solutions to manage and/or overcome some of these symptoms. Suman will ensure all clients are respected and informed, as well as ensuring safety, trust, empowerment, voice, choice and cultural sensitivity. Suman will use a range of techniques from perspectives such as, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing), CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), DBT (Dialectical Behaviour Therapy), Solution Focused, MiCBT (Mindfulness Integrated Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), as well as specific research and resources from trauma related training. Suman will use diverse and wide range of experience and knowledge to help individuals succeed in their everyday lives.
